Wisconsin Rule Making/Code Adoption Process

This resource outlines the step-by-step process for adopting new building codes in Wisconsin, a process managed by the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). It covers key stages including the creation of Scope Statement, rule drafting, economic impact analysis, and adoption.

Wisconsin Stakeholder Priorities and Preferences for Building Energy Code Adoption

Clean Wisconsin and Slipstream staff conducted 34 stakeholder engagement interviews in late 2024 to better understand concerns and barriers regarding code adoption and compliance. This resource provides a summary of the findings from these stakeholder interviews.

2021 Model Energy Code Key Changes and the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code

This document provides an overview of the key provisions of the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (2021 IECC). It highlights key differences between the current Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC), which was adopted by Wisconsin in December 2015 (effective January 1, 2026). The Wisconsin UDC is equivalent to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, with Wisconsin-specific amendments.

2024 Model Energy Code Key Changes

This document provides an introductory overview of the key provisions of the Residential 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (2024 IECC). For some components of the 2024 code, a comparison is made to the current Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC) based on the 2009 IECC with amendments, the model residential 2009 IECC, and the model residential 2021 IECC.

Resilient & Efficient Buildings Municipal Support Program

Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition (WLGCC), a project partner, will create a buildings roadmap for local government, develop resources and tools in support of local efforts, and offer other technical assistance to help increase efficiency and resiliency of buildings in communities across the state.
